Põlva County
The slogan Põlva County – a greener life values clean food and air, wildlife and nature that is looked after, responsible and economical consumption and a green way of living.
One of the largest events in Põlva County takes place annually on a weekend in August – the Ökofestival (Eco-Festival) - with the aim of spreading the ideology of a greener way of living across the county borders.
Põlva County is an excellent choice, if you wish to spend your holidays in nature – pinewood forests brimming with mushrooms, hiking trails of various difficulty, exciting river trips, boat cruises to view magical sandstone cliffs, the indescribable beauty and stillness of bogs and marshes and the sand caves in Piusa are just a few of the nature’s creations here that offer wonderful experiences.
For those thriving to explore culture there are plenty of restored cultural locations, manors and historical buildings to discover. In In summer many plays and concerts are held in special interiors or in beautiful open-air locations, which are popular with locals and amongst people from further away.
Setomaa is full of unique culture, which can be witnessed on the doorstep of each house and through the tales of each of its inhabitants.
When travelling with children, the things you can only enjoy in our county, are:
